For
a change of pace, Alex gets on his soapbox and talks about politics,
attitude and includes some tapping tips. David gives us a detailed
account of how to use some useful NLP tips with your EFT skills,
as well as in your every day communications with others. Tom
continues his discussion on how to conquer your fears and also
your anger. I write about a unique experience I recently had
which I hope you will find amusing. Enjoy!
Tapping
and the New President.
by Dr. Alexander R. Lees
In America,
the Democrats expend a lot of time and energy on convincing
the other party to do it "this way." The Republicans expend
a lot of time and energy on convincing the Democrats to do it
"this other way," and back and forth it goes. Then both spend
gobs of money to convince the pubic only "they" are right. In
Canada it's the same thing with different party names doing
the same thing, and around the world, each country has its own
version of party clashing and bashing.
It would
seem more energy and time is spent proving each other wrong
than is spent running the country. And then, along came Barack
Obama. The shift in focus caught many by surprise, and for some,
it took some time to grasp the shift. President Obama isn't
interested in blame and fault. He isn't interested in spending
time looking backwards, trying to point the finger at who did
what wrong, and therefore, why we are in such an economic mess.
What
he wants nations to begin to focus on is: What can we do about
this? What will work? What must we give up now or change
now to bring the boat back on an even keel?
Well, the
first step is called hope. That's right, hope.
Nothing changes until we believe it can, and only after that
is achieved can we effectively focus on what to do and how to
do it.
President
Obama is exactly what we needed to get us all thinking along
the same lines - he has the beliefs necessary, the focus necessary,
and the energy necessary to get enough of us believing in a
better future, and with that shift in human consciousness always,
repeat always - comes changes. History has recorded this
singular fact over and over again, the only difference being
that now we have better "tools" to help make the shift easier.
One of the
things that might be preventing making that shift in thinking
easier and using the tools to do so, is paying attention to
the news/media. I realize and understand that the job of the
media is to report the news, but the question I have is: Do
they need to do it the way they do? It seems to me that they
are focussed on how terrible things are and must tell us so
repeatedly, day in and day out. How often do we need to hear/see
it to know one simple fact - the world is in an economic mess
- enough already!

If we hear
something often enough and it's the only thing we hear about,
we the people become as negative and hopeless as the news. Now,
I'm not advocating that we stick our heads in the sand and pretend
all is well. Rather, my attitude is: OK, you've told me it's
bad out there. I get it. When I start hearing what we can all
do to make it better, I'll pay attention. In the meantime I
will go about my daily life, doing what I can to make my own
personal world the best it can be, and for others that come
to me for help.
In other
words, I'm not going to allow the doom and gloom into my home,
via the TV news. At this point I suppose I could make some suggestions
on tapping for our fears about the economy (which might be necessary
for some people) and maybe next month I'll tackle that, but
today I'd rather focus on something else.
For instance,
one could, after making their morning coffee, tap a round similar
to the following,
"I
choose to be more optimistic about my future, and do my part
to assist the recovery."
One could
also decide to tap in,
"I
choose to have hope President Obama will straighten things
out."
Naturally,
the above are only suggestions, but may serve as a place to
start. Once you start to feel more optimistic, generating even
more word patterns becomes easier still, and that's how things
change. That's how things have always changed - one person,
then two, then... until we are united in a common cause, and
that's exactly what President Obama plans to do; with determination,
desire, diplomacy, vision and respect. We can too.
"Take
hope from the breast of man and make him a beast of prey."
----------------------------------------------
Unknown
And, please
remember, good things do happen as well! All it requires
is a change in attitude; and the tapping can speed up the change.
*Attitude:
A complex mental state comprised of beliefs, values, feelings
and determination towards a subject, situation, event, circumstance.
That's exactly what is needed to affect outcomes.

Helpful
NLP Tips to use when Tapping
by David Marshall
When
the founders of NLP, Dr. Richard Bandler and Dr. John Grinder
first started, they studied one of the best hypnotherapists
there had ever been - Dr. Milton Erickson. They were particularly
interested in his use of language and began by analyzing the
things that he said. This led to the formulation of what was
called the Milton Model of language. What they discovered was
really surprising because they found that Milton's way of speaking
was very vague and so they categorized, identified, and named
the various language constructions that he used. Once that had
happened the rest of us had a unique way of learning the hypnotic
language patterns of Milton Erickson, because, instead of learning
scripts, as people did previously, we were able to learn the
types of language structures that Milton used.
Although
at it takes a lot of skill and training to become a therapist,
it is important to have an understanding of the sort of language
hypnotherapists use because it is really useful in many other
situations, especially when using EFT. You can use hypnotic
language patterns to enhance the EFT experience, and it is especially
useful when you are information gathering.
So this
month I thought you might find it useful to start understanding
some of the structures of Milton Erickson and how they can be
used. Of course this will enable you to build your own particular
style of therapeutic language, and increase your effectiveness
when applying EFT. Over the next few articles I shall be explaining
even more.
Deleting
Information
Nominalisations
Nominalisations
are process words that have been turned into nouns and, in doing
so, have become intangible. To test for tangibility ask yourself
this question, "Can you put it in a wheelbarrow?" If you can't,
then it is a Nominalisation. Words that typically fit this definition
are happiness, communication, transportation, decision, education,
government, etc. To explore the deleted information turn the
word back into the process
For Example:
Transportation
= What is your transport process?
Decision
= What is your decision making process? Or, How do you make
decisions?
In hypnotic
language Nominalisations are used on purpose because they can
be translated by the listener to uniquely fit their own experience.
For example "The learnings that you make..." does not specify
what will be learnt, or how it will be learnt. This enables
the listener to draw their own conclusions. Consider the following
paragraph.
"So you
have come to see me about a particular difficulty that you want
to bring to a satisfactory resolution and I don't know yet what
personal resources you will find most useful for solving problems,
but as we progress, I know that your unconscious mind is able
to search through your experience and discover exactly which
resource is needed to end that difficulty ... Now..."
What are
the Nominalisations here?
"So you
have come to see me about a particular difficulty that
you want to bring to a satisfactory resolution and I
don't know... yet... what personal resources you will
find most useful for solving problems... but as we progress...
I know that your unconscious mind is able to search through
your experience... and discover exactly which resource
is needed to end that difficulty... Now..."
So now
you can see that virtually nothing has been specified - and
yet to the listener it can seem as if the speaker knows exactly
what the trouble is! This provides a useful way to suggest things
without saying anything that would not fit with the listener's
internal experience.
Unspecified
Verbs
All verbs
are unspecified in some way or another. This fact can be used
by the hypnotherapist to cause the listener to supply the most
appropriate meaning for them in order to make sense of the sentence.
In some
cases the distinction between an unspecified verb and a Nominalisation
is very fine. Consider the word "learning", when is it a Nominalisation
and when is it an unspecified verb?
"We are
all learning many new things" = Unspecified verb
"We can
all take significant learnings from our experiences" = Nominalisation!
Another
form of distinction lies in the use of sensory specific and
non-specific language. For example: "Do you see what that means?"
is more specific than "Do you know what that means?" In the
first case the listener is being directed to the visual representation
system and in the second case they can choose however they internally
represent "know".
Unspecified
Referential Index
This is
where information is lacking about the noun in a sentence. Words
like this, people, things, feelings, sensations, experience,
can be used in this context.
Examples:
"People can be happy."
"Animals can learn naturally." "This is easy."
"You can notice the sensations occurring..."
Again,
the affect here is to enable the listener to translate meaning
into their own experience.
Deletion
This is
when a major noun is completely missing.
Examples:
"I know that you are learning." "And so you are discovering."
The listener will fill in the blanks - learning what, discovering
what?
So now
you can begin to see how this could be used to supplement your
EFT procedures. For example, as you are going through the tapping
routines and the client is stating the required affirmations
you could be saying to them:
"I know
this was a big problem that you came to me with and I don't
know how you can sort it out and you may be wondering... as
we tap at the EFT points... how you can begin ... to feel different
sensations start to occur in your body... and different emotions
can begin to happen. And as these things start their various
processes... you can notice that changes are happening at an
unconscious level and even though I don't know how you're going
to change the things that you want to change... I do know that
you can do it. Because as we learn new things we begin to realize
that other things start to happen... and even though EFT may
seem strange it just seems to work... in some mysterious way."
This also
uses another hypnotic technique called Sensory Overload. As
the client is focusing their attention on their affirmation,
while they are experiencing the physical sensations of the tapping
procedure, and hearing you saying positive, hypnotic phrases,
their senses get overloaded (remember 7+ or- 2) which gives
their unconscious the opportunity to get to work on the changes!!
In future
articles I shall discuss how to use other constructs, and how
to incorporate time based (or temporal) phrases, to further
enhance your therapy sessions.
Have a
good time!

NEW
FEATURE
We
have added a new feature in our newsletter, one that provides
news about EFT from around the world. If you, or someone you
know, has some new, exciting or interesting news, please send
it to us and if we feel it's something all EFTers would like
to know about we'll publish it here in our newsletter.
Please
do not send us items of self promotion, unless the news or project
would benefit EFTers around the world. If you want to promote
yourself, here are two excellent places to do it. As some of
you may be aware, these two (relatively) new websites are dedicated
to sharing anything and everything having to do with EFT. Both
sites are excellent and offer many opportunities for EFT practitioners
and valuable information to the public.
EFTInternational.com
Created
by the people that made the EFT movie Try it on Everything showcases
EFT practitioners (their practice, workshops, articles, etc.)
so this is a great place for EFT practitioners to promote themselves.
They have a really exciting promotion coming up at the end of
February. Unfortunately I can't give you any details now, you'll
just have to wait for the big announcement, but I can tell you
one thing - Alex will be one of the participants and we're really
excited about it! Please check out the site and become a member.
Doing so will help spread the word about EFT even more. While
you're on the site, you may want to consider posting a "rating"
about one of Alex's articles, a workshop you've attended, or
his skills as a therapist. All comments gratefully accepted.
EFTProNetwork.com
The co-founders
Brandy and Joe Oliver are doing a great job of creating a website
for practitioners and the public alike. They offer a number
of unique projects and EFT Practitioners can take advantage
of. For example:
- Forums
- Blogs
- Articles
- Your
own EFT website
- And,
much more!
Brandy
and Joe are also doing as much promotion of their website as
possible so the world hears about EFT and EFT practitioners.
If you're interested in EFT and want to know more, and/or are
a practitioner, I recommend you join the EFTProNetwork.

Emotional release, what a relief!
(Part 2)
by Tom Dorzab
Now
that all your fears have been dissolved after holding the Water
Element Neurovasculars while thinking about your fears, we can
move on to conquer new frontiers. What's that? You still have
fears? Well I have to admit I'm not surprised. Even if you faithfully
did your homework as assigned, you probably have not reached
the perfect state of "no fear". And if my guess is correct,
some of you probably took your newfound knowledge and charged
out into feardom to save the world of all of its fears.
You
worked on your neighbour Jim's fear of losing his job, your
sister's fear of spiders, your cousin's fear of growing old
and too many others to mention. Not that that's a bad thing,
as there are far too many fears out there. But I have noticed
that many of us (that's right, I included myself) have a slight
tendency to take these techniques and use them on everyone else,
but make plans to work on ourselves tomorrow. And, as you well
know, when tomorrow comes, the fear meter is so high for everyone
else that our plans to work on ourselves get postponed time
after time after time.
I'm trying
to make two points here. Number one is that when we begin working
on ourselves, we cannot be lured into the idea that, if I just
do this technique, everything will be fine. You have all heard
the expression, life is a journey. Well guess what? The healings
that we are all looking for are a part of life. In this holographic
universe, that means healing is a journey and not the event
we have been conditioned to expect from our HMOs. Sure, there
are times when everything clicks just right and we experience
a profound healing. There are also times that the old healing
graph seems to have found a home in Plateau Ville and sometimes
even Backwards Ville.
As long
as you realize that all are normal parts of the journey, you'll
be alright. My second point is probably obvious. Healer heal
thyself. Words to live by. Make sure you spend time working
on Numero Uno. If you choose to use these techniques on others,
you will find you will be more successful if you can correct
the same problems in yourself. One interesting side note along
these lines is that when energy testing is done to determine
energy imbalances in others, there is a great tendency to find
your imbalances in the people you are testing. If you then correct
yourself and retest, the imbalance may not be found in your
test subjects.
Next we
are going to visit the wonderful world of the Wood Element.
The Wood Element is well known for providing the umph to get
things done. In nature it is related to Spring time. It's during
the Spring that the seeds that were laying dormant during the
Winter (Water Element) "spring" to life and undergo a tremendous
growth spurt. When the Wood Element becomes unbalanced in our
energy systems, one way it can manifest is in anger. The following
technique can help you diffuse that anger and turn it into the
more balanced Wood Element aspect of assertiveness.
OK. Is
everyone ready to get mad? I mean really mad? Think about the
neighbour dog that always has to come over to your yard and…
Well, just think about the neighbour dog. Or think about anything
at all that tends to raise your blood pressure. Are you ready?
Are you good and mad? OK. Everyone keep thinking about whatever
makes you very angry (try to focus on only one specific event).
Now place the pads of your thumbs on the EFT points just to
the outside of your eyes on your temples and place the pads
of your other fingers on the Main Neurovascular Points on your
forehead. If you simply place your fingers horizontally across
your forehead with the finger tips of your middle fingers touching,
that should do it.
Don't forget
to breathe deeply. Just as before, if you are sensitive to energies,
you may eventually feel a pulsing sensation under your fingers
and thumbs. When the pulsing becomes synchronous, that is, when
you feel the pulses at the same time under each thumb and finger,
the work is finished. If you don't feel the pulses, other indications
of an endpoint could be a feeling of release, a yawn or a deep
sigh. Depending on the degree of anger you are feeling, it usually
takes anywhere from three to thirty minutes to reach completion,
but it's possible that it could take longer.
Well there
you go! You now have some very powerful tools in your toolbox
for overcoming the debilitating effects possible when caught
in the webs of fear and anger. But wait, we're not finished
yet!
In Part
Three we will continue on our journey of releasing other unwanted
emotions that can have a strangle hold on our quest for health
and happiness.

Why
Parents Drink...
The
boss wondered why one of his most valued employees was
absent but had not phoned in sick one day. Needing to
have an urgent problem with one of the main computers
resolved, he dialled the employee's home phone number
and was greeted with a child's whisper. 'Hello.'
"Is
your daddy home?" he asked.
"Yes,"
whispered the small voice. "May I talk with him?"
The
child whispered, "No."
Surprised
and wanting to talk with an adult, the boss asked, "Is
your Mummy there?"
"Yes."
"May
I talk with her?" Again the small voice whispered, "No."
Hoping
there was somebody with whom he could leave a message,
the boss asked, "Is anybody else there?"
"Yes,"
whispered the child, "a policeman."
Wondering
what a cop would be doing at his employee's home, the
boss asked, "'May I speak with the policeman?"
"No,
he's busy," whispered the child.
"Busy
doing what?"
"Talking
to Daddy and Mummy and the Fireman," came the whispered
answer.
Growing
more worried as he heard a loud noise in the background
through the earpiece on the phone, the boss asked, "What
is that noise?"
"A
helicopter," answered the whispering voice.
"'What
is going on there?" demanded the boss, now truly apprehensive.
Again,
whispering, the child answered, "The search team just
landed a helicopter."
Alarmed,
concerned and a little frustrated the boss asked, "What
are they searching for?"
Still
whispering, the young voice replied with a muffled giggle...
"ME."

Berit's
Corner
I
was going to write about something else this month but I had
a unique (to me) experience and thought you might enjoy hearing
about it.
One morning a few months ago Alex said, "Do you realize you
stopped breathing for 11 seconds last night?" With a blank look
on my face, I replied, "What?" He repeated, "You stopped breathing
for 11 seconds, you need to see the doc." All I could think
to respond was, "Oh!"
Apparently I had begun to snore quite loudly and frequently,
and the fact that I stopped breathing for 11 seconds, now made
this an issue to be dealt with immediately. I went to the doctor
and he referred me to the Sleep Clinic at our local hospital.
Various tests were done and after seeing the specialist an appointment
to sleep over at the Sleep Clinic was arranged. It turned out
to be like no other "sleep over" I'd ever had.
The evening of the appointment I had to shower before leaving
the house. No conditioners or gel were to be used on my hair.
Do you have any idea how limp my hair looks without that stuff?
Then with my bag packed with brand new PJs, Alex drove me to
the hospital because it was very foggy and there was ice on
the roads. Alex dropped me off at the entrance and drove off.
Gathered around the entrance to the hospital was a motley crew
of about five or six men in various states of dress. Some were
wearing PJs, others sweats, and one young man had on one blue
hospital slipper over his boot and none on the other. They were
all speaking quite excitedly and smoking.
I approached the hospital door and saw the sign "Doors closed
at 8:00 pm." That's all it said, nothing about where to go or
what to do! It was now 8:45 pm and I had no idea how to get
into the hospital and it's a huge, sprawling complex. Then one
of the men (the one with the blue slipper) walked up to a pillar,
pressed a button and said, "Psych Ward." The door magically
opened. I don't know what I would have done without the assistance
of the patients from the Psych Ward.
I made my way to the Sleep Clinic and was instructed to wait
by the TV outside in the hall. There was a young man on his
cell, talking very loudly, so I turned on the TV to try to drown
him out. His conversation wouldn't have been quite so annoying
if he'd stopped saying, "Man, I gotta change schools, I need
to meet more chicks." The fact that he repeated this statement
every third sentence was drowning out Larry King on the TV.
Finally, I was invited in to the Sleep Clinic and asked to put
on my PJs. Then I sat down and gazillion electrodes were attached
to all areas of my body including my head. Those ones hurt because
it felt like someone was sticking staples into my skull! This
procedure took one hour to complete. Finally I was ready to
go to bed. But before I tucked in for the night I asked if I
could see how I looked. So, I went over to a mirror and scared
myself silly. The creature looking back at me would be the foundation
of the nightmares to come, I was sure.
With wires protruding from everywhere, I settled into bed. Very
quickly I realized that I really shouldn't move around too much
because I could easily strangle myself. As I had that image,
I thought, "I wonder if people snore in heaven?" Clearly I was
being affected by the electrodes, or maybe it was the pasty
gel substance used to keep them glued to my head.
Thank heaven I fell asleep quickly. The nice technician wished
me a "good night" (there's an intercom system so he could talk
to me and I could call him if need be during the night). Apparently
I was a good patient because he only had to come into the room
once to adjust an electrode that had fallen off.
The night passed quickly and I was only aware of a little discomfort
every time I moved. It wasn't enough movement to wake me completely...
just enough to annoy me because it was darn awkward. Plus, I
kept seeing images in my mind of this alien looking woman terrorizing
small children. I must have wandered into the children's ward
sometime during the night... in my dreams.
The next thing I knew it was 6:41 am. I knew the time 'because
I rolled over and glanced at my watch, and seeing the time made
me swear out loud. I can't use the word here 'because it's not
polite. At the same time I bumped my head on the wall and I
swore again. Immediately there was a voice booming into the
room, "Ah, you're awake."
I said the swear word again! I don't like swearing especially
when it's going to be broadcast to the whole Sleep Clinic. The
technician appeared at the door in less than five seconds and
started disconnecting me. What I wanted most was to go to the
bathroom, but that had to wait. Aaarrgghh!
It only took 15 minutes to rip the electrodes off. I
slipped on my jeans (over my PJs... it was a snug fit) put on
my coat, said, "Thank you" as if I'd just been a guest in someone's
home and we'd had a lovely dinner party.
When I got to the car, Alex was no where to be found. He had
arrived at 6:30 which was when I was supposed to be done, and
it was now 7:10 am. Before I could start to worry about where
he was, he appeared with a cup of coffee in his hand. It was
like a welcoming beacon and tasted great even though it was
just a titch cold. Alex was a little disgruntled, and because
I wasn't there when he'd arrived, he decided to find me. That
wasn't a good idea as he ended up with a grand tour of the hospital.
The various people he asked "Do you know which floor the Sleep
Clinic is on?" all tried to be very helpful and so Alex went
to the 2nd floor, 3rd floor, 4th floor, etc., and finally gave
up in frustration. No Sleep Clinic and no Berit. To make a long
story shorter, Alex had a tour of every floor, except the correct
one. By this time he hoped I'd been released and was waiting
in the car, which I was. Alex was kind enough not to laugh at
the orange gobs of paste stuck all over my head, but he did
suggest we go straight home and not go into any public places
on the way.
After all that, do I know if I have Sleep Apnea? No... I need
to wait six weeks to hear the results. Writing about the whole
experience has been quite exhausting, so I'm going to go and
have a nap now.
Till
next month,
Take care.
