Editor's
Note:
This
month Alex writes Part 2 of You Are Unique (Part 1 was
in the September edition of Reflections). Rehana recounts a
personal story about a very eventful airplane ride she had recently.
Dave also shares a personal story about his health and what
he's learned to do that helps him greatly, and it only takes
a few minutes a day. Tom's article is about an amazing little
boy and how he was helped when everyone said it was impossible.
I write about what's happening in the Lees' world, the EFT world,
and the American election. Enjoy!
You
Are Unique - Part 2
by Dr. Alexander R. Lees
Part 1 of
You are Unique was in the September
edition of Reflections (if you'd like to refer to
it please click here). At the end of that article I left off
with "the little meaning boxes" used to make sense of the world.
I'm getting on in years, and I'm sure that alone has affected
some of mine, thus the reason for me completely spacing I was
to complete that article in the October edition. One of Berit's
little boxes popped open, as we were discussing this and she
assured me the slip was due to "Mercury being in retrograde."
When I
didn't buy in, she opened another box, and reminded me I'm down
to 50 functioning brain cells, and since 49 are required to
put my socks on, there's very little left to remember when it
comes to which article to write. Now that my socks are on, and
Mercury has un-retrograded itself, let's get back to the meaning
boxes.
Where do
they come from, anyway?
To begin
with, the first few years of childhood are called the formative
years for a reason. This is where the basics of the boxes are
formed, with some variations on the themes added later.

Our parents
tell us how to behave. They tell us what is important and what
is frivolous. They teach us our capabilities, or point out the
sad lack of them. We learn what is possible and what is not,
whether money is in abundant supply, or that it grows on trees,
and we must wait for the next harvest. All these things and
more; meanwhile, just down the street, a child raised with different
parents may be learning different possibilities and limitations.
So, who's right?
There are
some overlaps in the rules and these become known as
shared realities. There are also some differences, and these
contribute to our uniqueness, along with input called peers,
teachers, coaches and so on. The point is that some of these
meaning boxes are formed long before we are aware of
them, yet so deeply imbedded within the neurology we "just know"
what box "X" situation fits in, and which box situation "Y"
fits in, and so forth.
One day,
we feel the urge to leave the nest, or in some cases, the parents
feel it's time, and off we go to make our own way, taking along
our little boxes, of course.
Once we're
adults, we don't want to refer to them as meaning boxes, so
we increase our education, and then refer to the boxes as perceptive
filters. Nothing has changed except the label, of course, but
what the heck, at least we are starting to sound like adults.
One day,
it may occur to us that we aren't as happy as we'd like to be,
or as confident as we'd like to be. Maybe it's a certain dissatisfaction
that troubles us, or lack of money to live the life we want.
One choice we stumble over is the concept of analysing the contents
of the boxes; an arduous, expensive task at best. Now we need
money and spend time perhaps lying on some couch discussing
our childhood with someone, and use the very content of those
boxes (whoops - perceptive filters) to do so. In some cases,
this works to a certain extent. And, in still other cases, it
may work quite well.
But, what
if you were to reframe the whole thing? That is, look at it
in a different way? What if, for instance, you decided or realized
that all those childhood inputs were a form of programming?
If you were to do that, then it wouldn't be a big leap to realize
that if we were programmed, then that means this marvellous,
magic box called a human brain is re-programmable!
And, that's
when the magic begins.
All you
have to do then, is learn some techniques to do just that, and
once again, contribute to your uniqueness even more. In the
coming months I'll write about some tried and true techniques
to assist you in doing just that. And, I promise to remember
to do that.

Affairs
of the Heart
by David Marshall
A
couple of years ago, a friend of mine, who is an eminent psychologist
in his field of educational psychology briefly told me about
a product that he had been shown. He was connected to a PC by
a sensor on his fingertip that was plugged in to a USB port.
Combined with the software running on the PC, this device recorded
his heartbeat. Nothing new in that, I thought. He then went
on to explain that what this device did was to analyse not just
the heartbeat, but the way your heart was beating. He explained
that these people had discovered that, to put it simply, the
way your heart beats is affected by your emotion. So if you
are stressed, anxious or angry, your heart will behave differently
for each emotion. What this package did was to show you how
your heartbeat changed with each change in emotional state.
The objective
of this system is to enable you to change the way your heart
beats so that you can control it. It has many different displays,
and games, that work in a biofeedback way to show you which
thoughts and emotions affect your heartbeat. In fact, the latest
ideas in this field are that the heart is an independent organ
with its own nervous system and memory. The relationship to
the brain is more symbiotic than subservient. They are more
of a team than two separate organs.
I thought
this was very interesting but, as it relied on separate equipment
that was at his university in England I just let it pass. The
kit my friend had used was produced by the Heartmath Institute,
and, as I have now discovered, their website tells you everything.
The process of controlling the heartbeat by your emotional state
is called coherence and the actual method, without any biofeedback
or equipment is described on the website for all to see. There
is also a simple PC program to introduce you to this process
called "the Coherence Coach" which you can download for $20.00.
The secret lies in how you breathe and think and is very simple,
so simple in fact it's hard to believe!
I have
reproduced it for you from their website:
Step
1: Heart Focus. Focus your attention on the area around your
heart, the area in the center of your chest. If you prefer,
the first couple of times you try it, place your over the center
of your chest to help keep your attention in the heart area.
Step
2: Heart Breathing. Breathe deeply but normally and feel as
if your breath is coming in and going out through your heart
area. As you inhale, feel as if your breath is flowing in through
the heart, and as you exhale, feel it leaving through this area.
Breathe slowly and casually, a little deeper than normal. Continue
breathing with ease until you find a natural inner rhythm that
feels good to you.
Step
3: Heart Feeling. As you maintain your heart focus and heart
breathing, activate a positive feeling. Recall a positive feeling,
a time when you felt good inside, and try to re-experience the
feeling. One of the easiest ways to generate a positive, heart-based
feeling is to remember a special place you've been to or the
love you feel for a close friend or family member or treasured
pet. This is the most important step.
I have
suffered from high blood pressure for many years. In fact, a
few years ago I had a blocked artery which caused a stroke.
So, I thought, if it works for me it's got to be good. I have
been carrying out the process for a few months now and my blood
pressure is now consistently lower than it has been for several
years. It is an amazing coincidence that this has happened,
and, as this is not a double blind clinical experiment, I cannot
say specifically that the coherence process is the causative
factor. Blood pressure is affected by many things, eating or
drinking, the temperature, the weather, emotional states, even
a doctor in a white coat, can all have a bearing. However, notwithstanding
all of the above, the effect on my blood pressure, since adopting
the coherence breathing methods, has been dramatic and I believe
that it is due to the coherence breathing process. That is one
measurable benefit that I have found, but read the stuff on
the Net and you will find there are many, many, more benefits
available with this simple method.
As you
can see, the above process is very simple. It takes less than
five minutes for most people to learn, and one minute a day
is all most people need to do. (I do it in bed before I get
up in the morning!) Of course, you can do it as often and for
as long as you like.
Just look
at the following references for more detailed information, there's
a lot of it been produced in the last 15 years of research.
(Google "Heart Coherence" and see what happens!!)
Naturally,
I cannot guarantee that you will find it both easy and beneficial,
but it is my sincere belief that everyone can benefit from this
simple technique. If you tell two people, who tell two people,
who tell two people...., etc. In a very short time we can make
a big difference. So, I heartily encourage you to please pass
this information on.
For the
record - These charts show my blood pressure readings -- Systolic
(upper lines) and Diastolic (lower lines).
Here
is a chart showing what my BP used be in 2003 (before the breathing).
Notice the peaks of the range:
Here
is my current chart after doing the Coherence exercise for about
two months (September 2008):
Here
after three months (October 2008) - notice how much smoother
the graphs are becoming.

Omens
by Rehana Webster
Recently I had a workshop to deliver in
Nelson which is a city at the northern tip of South Island in
New Zealand. I was unable to get a direct flight to Nelson from
Auckland and had to take the milk run which meant a change of
flights in Wellington. Now, Wellington is renowned for being
a very windy city and has one of the most difficult airstrips
for aircraft to land at because of the fierce and unpredictable
winds. However, I had flown through Wellington several times
previously and not experienced any problems.
Before my trip I noticed that there was a documentary being
shown on television about New Zealand. It was about the natural
wonders and disasters that have been documented here. I was
very interested and decided to watch. The documentary included
volcanic eruptions, earth quakes, floods, etc. I was especially
interested since having lived here for a decade, I had never
(touch wood) been in a place where these natural disasters occurred.
Even the earth quake on Christmas day which destroyed the city
of Gisborne a couple of years ago was too far from where I live
to even have felt the aftershocks.
At the end of the documentary there was a bit about Wellington
airport as being such a dangerous strip and there was a old
black and white movie clip of a propeller plane…which looked
quite large to me… being buffeted around quite wildly like a
toy plane as it attempted to land. There were several attempts
at this landing and I remember thinking to myself: Thank
goodness that has never happened to me 'cause I would be leaving
my breakfast behind on the plane! How lucky I am that the new
bigger heavier jets don't get blown around like the old prop
jobs did.
Anyway,
I caught my flight from Auckland and within the hour we were
about to land at Wellington. The pilot came on the intercom
system and announced we had to belt up tight because it was
quite windy. That was an understatement. The plane started rocking
from one side to the other. The wings were flapping away… and
it felt like a roller coaster ride. I have never liked roller
coasters for good reasons! The vertical drops were quite frightening
and the pilot attempted to land three times before he was able
to set the plane down safely. Whew! I was feeling quite nauseous
and my heart was beating fast enough to pop out of my chest!
I noticed that I was gripping my seat so tightly that my knuckles
were white. Yes, I was frightened at a physiological level…
however; my thoughts were not startled or fearful. My body was
doing it all. I didn't have to think anything scary to
feel all those horrible feelings, as I was already feeling
them.
I finally remembered to tap and then I was going for it… tapping
away as fast as I could, counting seven taps at every EFT point.
No one seemed to notice as they were all trying to get a grip
on their own fears. I continued tapping while the pilot attempted
three times to land. Each time the pilot couldn't land he would
gun the plane nose up and circle the airstrip to try yet again.
So there was ten minutes of respite between each attempt. I
continued to tap and noticed that once the plane stopped doing
the gyrations, my fear responses subsided. Each time the plane
shuddered, shook, buffeted and zoomed down at break-neck speeds,
so did my fear responses. Whew!
Finally the plane landed and I thankfully disembarked and rushed
to catch my connecting flight which was loaded and ready to
go to Nelson. Flying out of Wellington was fine… and I put that
scary experience aside.
Two days later I had to return to Wellington on my way back
to Auckland. It was very interesting to notice that I had no
fear response thinking about the flight, or boarding the flight,
and arriving in Wellington.
Seems like my body did not hold on to any of the fear of the
previous flight thanks to EFT tapping!

They said it was impossible...
by Tom Dorzab
Let's
take a step back this month. Instead of learning more "how-to"
stuff about Energy Medicine, let's relax a bit and review a
real feel good case I had earlier this year. I have to say that
I never cease to be amazed at the results I have seen in people
who have been introduced to Energy Medicine after years of pain
and misery. Quite often, at least in clients who diligently
do their homework, I see amazing changes very quickly. The case
I want to talk about today though warmed my heart even more
than most.
This is
a story about a little eight year old boy, Carlos (not his real
name), who was going through some difficult times. His anxiety
level was very high because of the teasing he had to endure
at school by his classmates. His classmates had begun calling
him stupid during this formative time in his life. This very
bright little boy however, was far from stupid. After I got
to know him, it was obvious that he was quite intelligent and
a joy to be around to boot. His fellow students had decided,
because he still didn't seem to know his colours that he had
to be stupid. Carlos was colour blind.
|

"Normal" colour pallet
|

Colour blindness pallet
|
His mother
had heard about me from a friend and asked me if I thought I
could help him with his anxiety. Of course, that's like asking
a chef if his food tastes good. After telling her that anxiety
is almost always reduced in my clients, assuming they do the
homework I give them, she brought Carlos in for a session. In
our pre-session conference I learned that, in addition to anxiety,
he was also suffering from dermatitis and insomnia. After letting
his mother know that I don't treat anything, I simply balance
or strengthen energy systems and see what happens, his session
began.
While it
was true that he needed a number of corrections, it was also
true that, as compared with most of my clients, he was really
in pretty good shape. Even still, the first session, as usual,
was spent working on some of the more basic imbalances, including
the daily exercises you have just learned over the past few
months in this newsletter.
After correcting
the imbalances I found in his Daily Routine exercises, a few
other basic energy exercises and his meridian system, we moved
on to allergies and sensitivities. Unlike the majority of my
clients, based on energy testing, I was unable to find any allergies
or sensitivities after testing him for about 70 substances that
commonly cause reactions. In the first session, after testing
and correcting for the basics, I had just enough time left to
check for irregular energies around his eyes. I found a few
and was finally able to correct them. They didn't go peacefully.
Since the boy's mother had told me that her doctor had told
her that nothing could be done about his colour blindness, my
focus was mainly on his anxiety. After finding and correcting
the irregular energies around his eyes, for the first time,
I allowed myself to begin thinking we may be able to accomplish
more than just reducing his anxiety. Near the end of the session,
I rechecked for irregular energies around the eyes, but found
that the correction had not held. At the end of the session,
after explaining what I had found and what I had corrected,
I assigned his homework and recommended he return in about two
weeks to see how things were progressing.
When he
returned, about two weeks later, I found a much better balanced
boy standing before me. According to his mother, his anxiety
was completely gone and both he and his mother were very happy
with the results. His mother told me later that he had no other
episodes of dermatitis for months after our three sessions which
just happened to be during the time of year that they typically
occurred. She also said he had been sleeping a lot better. These
kinds of far reaching results are quite typical of what I see
in clients who do their homework. His mother had followed all
of my recommendations perfectly and helped cement the changes
I had initially made in his energy habit field. She did such
a good job that I had much more time to explore other possibilities
during the second session. I rechecked for the irregular energies
around his eyes that I had found in the previous session. They
were still there and I corrected them again.
I rechecked
his eyes three more times during the session and each time the
problem had returned. Luckily his mother was familiar with other
forms of energy work and felt more comfortable working with
Carlos than most mothers I had dealt with. I showed her how
to test and correct the energies around his eyes and instructed
her to keep testing and correcting whenever she found the problem.
With my remaining time, I checked for vortices around his eyes.
Vortices are energetic structures that can pull energy into
the energy field. If they aren't functioning properly, the result
will be either too much or too little of one kind of energy
or another entering the energy field. I found a vortex over
his right eye and corrected it. It also returned before the
end of the session. In addition to the other homework I had
assigned, I showed his mother how to test and correct the vortex.
Be sure
to tune in again next month for the conclusion of: They said
it was impossible.

BAD BANKING NEWS
Following
the problems in the sub-prime lending market in America
and the run on Northern Rock in the UK, uncertainty has
now hit Japan.
In
the last 7 days the Origami Bank has folded, the Sumo

While
the Samurai Bank is soldiering on following sharp cutbacks,
the Ninja Bank is reported to have taken a hit, but they

Berit's
Corner
We've
had an amazing 18 months with all of our projects! We had no
sooner finished one project when we started another, and I'm
pleased to say we're now done... for a while at least. Our book
Pathways
Through Your Mindfield (in hardcover) took up
one year of our lives and we're proud to say that copies of
the book have travelled across the globe. The soft cover edition
is also now available at Amazon.com
and is selling, even without our doing a marketing campaign
yet. We also had our website DrAlexLees.com
redesigned, created a website for the book, and then shortly
thereafter decided to create our blog ProudToBeBoomers.com
which we announced last month. There was only one project
left and that was making some small changes and also changing
the look of our other book:
EFT - What is it and how does it work? It's
now a PDF and can be easily downloaded as an eBook from our
website.
Now that all that's done, I think we'll take the next couple
of months to relax a bit, but I wouldn't be too surprised if
we dream up another project soon, and away we go again.
Meanwhile, there have been some changes in the world of EFT.
Gary Craig (the developer of EFT) has deleted all EFT workshop
listings from his website so newcomers to his site will not
even be aware that there are EFT workshops. And, that there
are many, many people teaching these EFT workshops around the
world. Most EFTers I've talked to find his decision to remove
workshop listings a little strange. As I said, there are many
people teaching EFT around the world and each person is helping
to spread the word about EFT - which is a good thing! But, Gary
Craig has decided the only way people should learn EFT is to
purchase his videos.
Of course, that's his prerogative as he is the developer of
EFT. But what most people are curious about is why was it OK
for others to teach EFT and thereby help introduce EFT to thousands
around the world (for ten years) and now suddenly, it's not
OK to do so? None of us know the answer to that question.
The EFTers I've spoken to are all going to continue teaching
EFT (including us) because we believe attending a workshop to
learn about a subject is the most beneficial way of learning.
We are all just going to have to come up with creative and interesting
ways to promote and market our workshops. Currently there are
two websites (that I know of) that list EFT practitioners and
EFT workshops:
www.EFTByWorkshop.cc
www.EFTproNetwork.com
I would encourage all of you to check out these websites - they
have lots of info about practitioners, workshops, articles,
blogs and forums relating to EFT and other energy medicine and
energy psychology methods. If we help spread the word about
these sites, we'll be helping each other out and we'll be able
to continue doing what we've been doing for years, something
we love doing - teaching people how to have healthier and happier
lives!
If you know of any other websites that are helping spread the
word about EFT practitioners and/or workshops, please let me
know so I can pass the word on to everyone.
So far, I've been good and written about what's happening in
the Lees' world and the EFT world and I haven't said one word
about THE election in America. This newsletter isn't the place
for political rants from me; even though some of you are aware
I love American politics and follow it closely. This year has
been the most exciting election in decades and election day
is very near (Nov. 4th). Although I'm almost at the point of
wishing it were over because some of the news reports about
the election are getting scary, i.e., Barack Obama has been
the target of two assassination plots this year! I could write
volumes about that, but instead, I spoke to my friend Rehana
and she came up with the appropriate word for these people -
morons!
All I want to say about this election is that I hope it goes
off without any glitches - remember 2000 and Al Gore/George
Bush - and that everyone stays safe. And, most importantly,
that the world wakes up on November 5th with the news that America
has elected a new president and there will now be real change
happening in Washington and around the world.
All of us, no matter where we live deserve to have a better
world so I'm counting on all Americans to make the choice that
best helps all of us. With the devastating news on the financial
front I think we've all come to realize that we are inter-connected
and what happens in one country can, and does, affect the rest
of the world. And, I'm hoping that this election will bring
about a more positive and unifying message for everyone... we
need it.
Meanwhile, all of us around the world can do our bit to make
our own country, and our world, a better place because we not
only need it, we deserve it!
As they say in the political commercials on TV - This message
has been approved by Berit Lees.
P.S. Thank you to all that purchased the movie Try it on Everything...
you've made the producer (of the movie) very happy! We hope
you enjoy all the bonuses and learn a bit more about EFT from
all of them.
Till
next month,
Take care.

Halloween
is Over!
By
the time you are reading this newsletter, Halloween
will be over... thank heaven. The main reason I
don't like Halloween is that all the noise of the
firecrackers terrifies our doggies and we have to
give them Rescue Remedy to get through the evening!
So, when I saw these Maxine cartoons, I knew the
creator had me in mind... they describe my sentiments
about Halloween exactly
