Editor's
Note:
In
this issue Alex writes about PTSD and a technique that can really
help. I asked Dave to write about his life in Spain because
I thought our reader's might enjoy hearing what it's like to
live there. It brought back fond memories for us about our time
there and especially meeting Dave during his 'set-up' days!
Tom continues with his series on Energy Exercises, and I write
about what we've been up to. Unfortunately Rehana was not able
to write an article this month because her area of New Zealand
was hit by a hurricane and Rehana has not mastered the art of
writing by candlelight.
Also, there's
some light-hearted "stuff" to make us all smile. Enjoy the rest
of your summer!
Help
for PTSD - Part 2
by Dr. Alexander R. Lees
In the first
part of Lynn's story last month I used a technique to reduce
the impact of her flashbacks. In this second part, you will
be learning the process.
This technique,
I've learned over the years, is an excellent one for treating
PTSD. For our purposes, PTSD is a fancy way of labelling the
fact that a certain occurrence, or series thereof, imprint in
such a way that various situations, events or circumstances
that occur after the imprint serve as a trigger. The
mind then finds itself "flashing back" to that same imprint.
The insidious part is that not only does the individual relive,
in their mind, the unwanted memory complete with the same kinesthetics
(feelings) but the incident that triggered the flashback can
then become "contaminated" as well.
Let's look
at how to deal with it. I will explain the steps as if you are
the "client." Once you have mastered the technique, it is a
simple adaptation to assist others, if you so desire.
Begin by
taking a few moments to simply relax, and turn the attention
inward. As you do, begin to imagine you are in a private theatre,
your private theatre. Since it's your theatre, feel free to
scan the rows of empty chairs, and then select exactly the one
you want. As you do so, and sit down, take a moment to notice
that the arm of the chair contains several buttons. As you press
the first one, the lights dim to create the perfect setting,
and as you press the second button, the curtains slide back
to reveal the screen.
In the
upper left hand corner of the screen you now notice a black
and white snapshot. The snapshot is of you, and it was taken
before the incident you want to edit occurred. A way
of thinking about this photo is that it represents you
without the memory.

You watch
as the black and white snapshot becomes a black and white movie,
and, as it's kind of vague, it only shows you the highlights,
very quickly of what occurred, as you remain comfortable in
the seat, as the observer.
Remember,
the entire "show" only lasts a few seconds, just the highlights
flash before you on the screen. When you get to the end, "pause"
the movie. (The end can be where you know the incident is over
and the memory begins.)
Now you
find yourself staring at a white screen, and as you do that
now, you also find yourself floating out of the chair and begin
to float towards the white screen, noticing the rows of chairs
passing silently beneath you, as you sense the screen becoming
closer and larger, until you are in the white. Everywhere you
look is white; in front of you, beneath you, above you and behind
you.
Slowly,
the whiteness begins to evaporate, and you find yourself in
your body in the "paused" frame. Everything around you begins
to return to natural colour, but time is still "frozen". All
of a sudden you begin to live the scene backwards, very, very,
fast.
Everything
happens in reverse, other people (if they are there) speak backwards.
Feel and
see everything run in reverse, before your eyes, right back
to the beginning, as quickly as possible.
Pop out
of the experience and think of anything else for a moment. Ask
yourself how much gas is in the car, or what you are going to
have for dinner, or, if all else fails, "What do you think of
the price of eggs in your town, as opposed to the wear and tear
on the chicken's rectum?"
Now, whenever
you wish, access the memory (the incident) that was giving you
such discomfort. If you find it has become somewhat vague, and
certainly the unwanted feelings it evokes are gone now, you're
done!
Follow-up
with Lynne: Lynn had arrived for her second appointment. There
was definitely a lightness in her step. The change in her countenance
was obvious, and I mentioned it to her. "It's like a weight
has been lifted from my neck and shoulders," she declared. After
a pause, she said, "Let's do some more editing please." And,
that's exactly what we did.

AUSTRALIAN
COURT DOCKET # 12659 -
CASE OF THE PREGNANT LADY
A lady
about eight months pregnant got on a bus. She noticed the man
opposite her was smiling at her. She immediately moved to another
seat. This time the smile turned into a grin, so she moved again.
The man seemed more amused.
When on
the fourth move, the man burst out laughing, she complained
to the driver and he had the man arrested. The case came up
in court. The judge asked the man (about 20 years old) what
he had to say for himself.
The man
replied, "Well your Honour, it was like this. When the lady
got on the bus, I couldn't help but notice her condition. She
sat down under a sign that said, 'The Double Mint Twins are
Comin' and I grinned."
"Then she
moved and sat under a sign that said, 'Logan's Liniment will
reduce the swelling', and I had to smile."
"Then she
placed herself under a deodorant sign that said, 'William's
Big Stick Did the Trick', and I could hardly contain myself."
"BUT, your
Honour, when she moved the fourth time and sat under a sign
that said, 'Goodyear Rubber could have prevented this accident'...
I lost it."
"CASE DISMISSED!!"

Our
Spanish Paradise....Part 1
by David Marshall
I
first went to Spain in 1993 just for a short holiday. I thought
it was fantastic and the attitude of the people was so laid
back that, after spending so long in the corporate jungle,
I thought it would be a really good place to live. So we started
looking for a house. In those days it was not easy, there
were lots of holiday flats for sale but finding a house suitable
for our family proved much more difficult. We did not want
to live far from the coast and we did not want to live up
a long mountain track. We ended up buying a small house along
a mountain track near village called Competa, which was twice
the distance from the coast that we had intended. The thing
was that the only suitable family houses, that did not need
total renovation, were in the country. As it had taken us
over six months to find this house, out of desperation exasperation
or just plain relief, we bought it.
It
was perfect for what we wanted, three bedrooms, bathroom,
lounge and kitchen, etc. And we could extend it at a later
date, but for our family holidays it was perfect. Well, some
people might not think so! There was no mains electricity,
no mains water, no mains gas, and no telephone - just the
walls and the roof! The electricity was a very inadequate
solar system which was used to charge a bank of large batteries,
which would power three feeble light bulbs. This was supplemented
by a small petrol generator for things like washing machine,
iron and hair-dryer (an essential requirement, I believe).
The water system comprised a large concrete tank into which
the rain water from the roof drained and a header tank which
was filled by a 12volt pump connected to the solar system.
Yep, you've got it - no sun = no electricity = no water in
header tank, so if the header runs out before the solar recharges
- no water! This was supplemented by purchasing water privately
from a local supplier, which was delivered by a tanker. When
I asked the process for doing this I was told, "Go to the
municipal market, third stall on the left, saying to the lady
with black hair, 'Agua para Finca Cele por favor'. Pay her
£35.00 and within the next three days your water will be delivered."
This is very Spanish, and it worked!
To maintain effective communications internationally we had
to use a public call box in the village or we could arrange
for a fax to be sent to the local English shop, and they would
put a notice in the window if anything had been sent to us.
All very rural. Luckily one of our neighbours was happy to
act as a go between for the installation of a strange radio
telephone. (Not even a mobile! No signal in the mountains).
To our surprise, this happened without a hitch after we had
returned to England but at least we now had a phone.
So we started our adventure by living at a slightly higher
level than camping. Our kids called it posh camping because
at least we had a shower, hot water, a cooker and a gas fridge
(a terrible thing), and proper beds to sleep in. Even without
our accustomed modern amenities we really enjoyed being there.
The village car park was a muddy field. There was the occasional
mule could be seen in the street. Most villagers still kept
a mule in a room under their house. In those days a mule was
still the everyday form of transport. There were three or
four supermarkets that were basically shops in the proprietor's
front room and some greengrocers in the municipal market.
The restaurants and bars served typical Spanish tapas and
simple Spanish meals. It was very cheap way back then and
we could feed the whole family for less than £8.00! And so
timed passed and we travelled out whenever we could get away
to our own little piece of paradise. Over the years we gradually
improved the house with "proper" electricity and "real" water.
The water from the mains was a luxury and, although cheaper
than the tanker, it still seemed expensive to us.
Then our circumstances changed and we had the opportunity
to retire early. This was the day we had been waiting for
and so we grabbed it with both hands and six months later
in July 1997 we moved to Spain. The intervening six months
had been very hectic. Our UK house was to be sold, so agents
and lawyers had to be selected. We had to clear 25 years of
collected things, which meant many trips to the charity shops
and the local dump. I also had to redesign the Spanish house
so that it would be big enough to live in comfortably, holiday
houses are never big enough for permanent living. Phase one
was to find a builder who would take the job on and give us
a reasonable estimate. We were recommended a local Dutch builder
who spoke English and Spanish and would manage the whole project.
The first step was to build a garage/storeroom that would
hold our furniture while the building work was under way and
later become a workshop.
And then the fun really started...

Rule: When you're weeding, the best way to

Energy Exercises for Everyday
Living
(Article 3 in the series)
by Tom Dorzab
In Part 3 we will learn more exercises
that take very little time, but will help you to:
- Break
out of your depression.
- Increase
your coordination.
- Recover
from diseases.
- Calm
yourself.
The
Homolateral Cross Crawl
Most people
are aware that the right side of the brain controls the left
side of the body and the left side of the brain controls the
right side of the body. To be in an optimum state of health,
this mechanism must be working at a high level. When your body's
crossing patterns are not functioning properly, one of the consequences
is that your ability to heal is greatly diminished. Another
is that your ability to learn is also reduced. When your energies
are not crossing over as they should, they tend to travel straight
down the same side of the body. This is called the homolateral
pattern. When a person is in a homolateral pattern, activities
such as, swimming, running or walking, that normally would energize
you, instead tire you out. The homolateral pattern is a key
factor that is probably found in every chronic disease.
When should
you do the Homolateral Cross Crawl?
- When
you are feeling out of balance.
- When
you feel depressed.
- When
your senses seem less acute.
- When
you just can't heal from a disease.
- When
you are having trouble walking straight.
- When
you are feeling uncoordinated.
This exercise
can be done while sitting, standing or even in the prone position.
Raise your right knee and tap it with your right hand or elbow
at its apex, then alternate with your left side for a total
of about 12 taps. Then raise your right knee and at its apex,
tap it with your left hand or elbow and alternate on the other
side and tap your left knee and tap it with your right hand
or elbow also for a total of about 12 taps. Repeat this cycle
three times. On the last part of the last cycle, when tapping
the opposite sides, tap 20 to 25 times.
The
Hook Up
For our
purposes, the Governing Meridian (sometimes called the Governing
Vessel) runs from the bottom of the tailbone, up along the spine,
over the head, down over the nose and ends on the upper lip.
In order for us to operate at a high level, the Central Meridian,
that runs up the front of your body and the Governing Meridian
need to be connected. If they're not connected, then our energies
cannot flow from the front to the back as needed. Energy tests
have shown that the disconnect between the Central and Governing
Meridians is a very common problem in today's world. The Hook
Up is designed to help make this connection. It can help bridge
the energies between the head and the body, increase the energy
flow from the front to the back and it can also strengthen the
auric field. This technique also has the value of strengthening
both the Central and Governing Meridians which then feed the
chakras and all the other meridians. The Hook Up can strengthen
all your energies and also provides protection from other people's
illnesses. Holding these points for three to five minutes can
refresh your system when you are ill.
When should
you do the Hook Up?
- When
you feel disconnected from yourself or others.
- When
you feel as if you are coming apart.
- When
you need a sense of calmness.
To do this
simple exercise, place the middle finger of either hand in your
belly button, the middle finger of the other hand on the third
eye, pull up slightly and hold for five or six breaths.
You are
doing great! If you have been doing the exercises you have learned
in the last three newsletters, you are probably noticing a difference.
If not, it's very likely that energy tests would show an improvement
in your energy system. Only two more months to wait and you
will have all the basic exercises in your hip pocket. Keep up
the good work!
Berit's
Corner
We have had a quiet summer so far, seeing
clients, and taking advantage of the nice weather we had during
most of July. It was such a treat to see and feel sunshine,
and we're hoping that the nice weather continues through August.
We've also been working on two projects that we will be ready
to announce in September... if we can stop relaxing and do some
of the work required to finish them.
We need to finalize the listing of our book on Amazon - I didn't
realize that the "Inside this Book" feature didn't appear automatically
when listing the book, so I had to sign up to put that in place.
The feature should appear in a few weeks' time.
I am delighted to report that the feedback about the book has
been overwhelmingly positive! Now, it could be that people just
want to say nice things to make us feel good, but judging by
how many people have bought copies of the book for friends and
family, makes that seem unlikely.
Both Alex and I want to thank those of you that have taken the
time to put a review on Amazon. Apparently the more reviews
a book has, the higher it goes in the rankings, so every review
helps. We are still planning on doing a campaign on Amazon in
the Fall so part of me wants everyone to wait to buy the book
and then have everyone buy it on the same day. This way we can
say it's an Amazon best seller. But, the other part of me would
like everyone in the whole world to buy a book today! I guess
I need to integrate these two different "parts" and figure out
a way to make both happen.
Besides the book project we are also creating a new online venture
that we hope to launch in September. It's something entirely
new for us and we're on a steep learning curve at the moment.
I don't want to say anything more about the project now so we
can make a big announcement in our newsletter when it's ready.
Those of you that have been loyal readers of our newsletter
know that I like to tease you and build suspense.
So, we have our work cut out for us for the rest of the summer
as well as including a bit of rest and relaxation. We hope you
enjoy the rest of your summer and have lots of fun!
Till
next month,
Take care.
P.S. For
those of you Down Under and other parts of the world that are
experiencing winter, we hope the weather is not too severe.
Please stock up on batteries and candles, you never know when
you have to write something by candlelight!

For
the Ladies
Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my shape to keep.
Please no wrinkles, please no bags
And please lift my butt before it sags.
Please no age spots, please no gray
And as for my belly, please take it away.
Please keep me healthy, please keep me young,
And thank you Dear Lord, for all that you've done.
