Tis
Summer Time Tis summer time once again, and thoughts, at least around the Lees' house, tend to take on a more light and easy fun filled attitude towards everyday occurrences, and having booked a week off to do some work around the house we started with something simple. Whilst exchanging light bulbs, we noticed the melted plastic on the part that held the light bulbs. This was an immediate clue that something was amiss. We're very insightful that way :-) "I think I've discovered the source of the burning smell," She remarked from the top of the ladder. A quick inspection revealed several other melted fixtures, and so the rewiring began. But, it didn't end there. "This outlet in the living room is potentially wired for 220 volts," remarked Eric, "I'll have to fix that for you." "Would that mean that if we'd plugged in the TV and stereo, they would play brighter and louder?" I asked. Eric regarded me for a full five seconds before quipping, "Maybe for a part of a second, then they'd blow something very expensive, and we'd still have to rewire," he finished patiently. |

After all that was done, Berit and I turned our attention to painting. "Hey, let me get my trusty shop vac and get rid of the dust and dog hairs," I offered. My first clue this time that things weren't happening as they should was from the firm "Whack!!" on my shoulder from behind.
Turning around to discover the source, it was a tad difficult to see Berit's frantic gestures. The cloud of dust she was standing in obscured all visible communication. At the same moment, one or two of my few remaining grey cells switched from daydreaming to vague alert, and a signal was launched with the instructions: "Shut down the source of the dust cloud, now! " At the same time, another signal fired, probably from that region of the male brain associated with self preservation. "Okay feet. Let's remove ourselves from this scene. Things are no doubt gonna get very, very, ugly." "Were are you going, mister?" Was the first salvo fired in my direction. "Ah, get some fresh air?" was my lame response. The dogs, being infinitely smarter in things regarding survival and self preservation, had already exited the scene, the cowards. So, I turned to face the onslaught of the coming verbal storm alone, resigned to my fate. My feeble brain
extracted every tenth word or so from the colourful monologue and then
slowly formed them into a sentence or two. Company was arriving in less
than an hour. The swirling dust mixed with dog hairs was not
acceptable, and I was supposed to do something about it. Out came all
available fans, windows were thrown open wide and off I went to service
the vac.
"Wonder what our new neighbours think of the cloud of dust and hairs billowing out of the front windows," I mused as I replaced the torn shop vac bag with a new one, and trudged back up the stairs to survey the aftermath. "Hi, how's it going?" asked one of our guests upon arrival. "Oh, same old, same old," was my vague reply. And later, lost in the pleasant conversation and company, the pitfalls of renovations faded, and the joys of summer had officially begun. Now tomorrow is another day, and I can hardly wait to wire the newly created storage shed. Berit's eyes rolled towards the ceiling as I explained the latest project: "You don't seem to have mastered the care and feeding of a vacuum cleaner," she stated in that time honoured way wives have of shooting down husbands conversationally; "What makes you think you can wire the shed?" I looked around for the dogs, hoping for some support, but they were wisely napping a fair distance away, and wouldn't even make eye contact, so I simply stated the obvious. "Look," I said patiently, the hose reaches the shed, and besides, it's just a small shed, and a very simple wiring job. I'll need an outlet on the outside, a light inside, and security lights near the door. 'Sides, how much can it burn before I put it out with the hose?" Women certainly don't seem to appreciate the clarity of male logic, that's for sure. "And further more,
peach is not a colour, it's a fruit," I mumbled under my breath as I
headed for my newly built workshop for the tools... .

Akido and EFT Editor's Note: Rehana lives in beautiful New Zealand and is surrounded by spectacular scenery. She is also fortunate to have a wonderful retreat in her own backyard (well almost... it's in the same small town - Whitianga - where Rehana lives). This month Rehana writes about the parallels of EFT and the ancient martial art of Aikido. She has also kindly provided several photos. When I first saw them I wanted to hop on a plane and visit Rehana right away, and of course we would also visit the dojo! For more information on the dojo and the owner, David Lynch please visit www.aikido.co.nz Aikido, meaning "way of harmony or ki", is a modern Japanese discipline. It was developed by Morihei Ueshiba over the period of the 1930s to the 1960s. Aikido is the "Way of Harmony," a mind/body discipline which originated as a Japanese martial art or Way and is now popular throughout the world with those who seek a better understanding and awareness of themselves and their relationship with others. Are you familiar with the concept of Yin and Yang? Of balance? To know light, one must first know darkness. Are we not removing blockages and balancing the body's energy system by tapping on the EFT meridian points? Do we not focus in on the negative emotions, the darkness, to get to the light emotional side? As in Aikido, doesn't EFT help us recognize that "mind" and "body" are literally the same thing? Both disciplines
show us how to balance our nervous system. On the psychological level,
Aikido has as much depth as the student may wish to discover for himself
and, indeed, it is the mental element, with its relevance to daily life
situations, that is the chief attraction of the art for many people.
Through inner calmness one acquires the possibility of leading another
person's ki (the vital energy directed by mind or spirit). It is said
that "where the mind leads, the body follows." Does this remind you
of the Palace of Possibilities section of EFT?
Berit's
Corner What Alex fails to realize, or remember, is what's good for the gander is also good for the goose. And in this case an intercom can NOT work BOTH ways :-) The time will come when Alex wants something and he'll connect his intercom and there just might be total silence from the one in the kitchen! This is all in good fun, and I'm sure our intercoms will be talking to each other some day soon :-) Last month I told you about our upcoming workshop - The Heart of Delivery: Adding NLP to EFT in October. I am happy to report the webpage is now up and running. This workshop is special for us for a number of reasons:
Our aim is to make this workshop and our time together into a very special event. An event that you won't want to miss! Please view the details of the workshop at: Generally speaking we don't take holidays in the summer. But this year we felt we needed a break so we booked the first week in August off. So, what am I doing, sitting at my desk on my holiday... but working! But at least it's a fun job - putting the newsletter together. Once the newsletter is done, so am I, and it will be time to take it easy. Which means paint the living room and have the house in some semblance of order for a party we're having in a couple of weeks. Lots to do and so little time, so I better stop writing and pick up my paint brush. I hope you're not too hot wherever you are, and some gentle summer breezes are blowing your way. Enjoy the rest of your summer!
Take
care,
