Berit’s Corner

Shaggy Dog Story

EFT "newbie"
Success Stories

Berit's Corner

Berit’s Corner is at the beginning of the newsletter this month because I’d like to explain that this issue is a little different. In past issues of Reflections we have made the summer issues more "light" reading. It’s been a while since Alex wrote something light and amusing, so this month Alex has written about our two dogs, Lucas and Kaylie, and all you long-time readers will be familiar with some of their antics and stories.

Also, we would like to introduce a new column by our colleague in Spain, Jose Hernandez. We hope he will be a regular contributor to Reflections. This month Jose has written about EFT success stories, as told to him, by a few of the participants at the recent seminars taught by Alex in Spain, last May. We’re calling them EFT "Newbie" Success Stories, and hopefully they will encourage some of you to give EFT a try... on everything and anything!

So, now that Alex has written a funny story, and Jose has written about EFT, I’m going to go back to painting and fixing up the house. I’m on a roll, and the goal is to complete all this renovation work by the end of the summer. I’d best get to it.

Have a fun-filled, and relaxing summer!

Till next month, take care.

Shaggy Dog Story
by Dr. Alexander R. Lees

“There’s wiggly, white thingies in the dog poo,” announced Berit over morning coffee. “Do something.” Now, after some 28 years of marriage, this male has learned to translate the female use of the word “thingies,” and soon knows instinctively if said word refers to a device, button, or function relating to the stereo, video equipment, vacuum cleaner, a tool in the workshop, some aspect of the computer or some function of the trusted Subaru.

“Wiggly, white thingies” was new, and peaked my curiosity sufficiently to cause a quick trip to the Vet.

“Tapeworms,” he announced solemnly, and quickly dispensed the necessary expensive medicine. “And, good luck,” said he quickly breaking eye contact. “What do you mean?” I inquired innocently. “I know your dogs,” he replied, still looking at anything but me, and giving the impression he’d like to relocate to anywhere but within driving distance of my place of domicile. “Don’t bring them here. Just phone if you need help. I’ll be here all day, maybe,” he offered as he stared longingly at the office door.

And so, for those that like to read my columns, I offer this expert and professional synopsis of how to give two dogs worm pills.

Secure both dogs firmly to the floor with chains, ropes and straps, and have six large guys standing by as back up. Ensure all neighbours have been evacuated from the immediate area. Contact the police and convince them any emergency calls regarding your address should be ignored for at least two hours. Make a donation to the local SPCA and assure them you are fully aware of the definition of “animal cruelty,” and do not indulge in such practises, regardless of the flood of concerned phone calls.

Failing that, do the following:
"And so, for those that like to read my columns, I offer this expert and professional synopsis of how to give two dogs worm pills."

Open door, in our case a sliding glass patio arrangement, thus giving both dogs access to the inside of the house. Step out of the way as a 95 pounder collides with an 80 pounder, as they compete to be first through the door. Do not allow the large male (White Shepherd), in this case Lucas, to spot the closed hand containing pills before sliding the door shut.

This oversight triggers the word “MEDICINE!” that is registered deep within his brain, and the appropriate survival mechanisms are activated within a microsecond. Kaylie (the female), well attuned to reading his body language, was glued to his tail as the white streak exited through the still open patio door.

Cookies and patience are necessary here, and the second time they entered, following the trail of cookie pieces, the escape hatch was quickly closed. Of course, finding himself trapped, Lucas fell back on Plan B.

This consists of dropping both ears, and folding his body into an impossibly low profile, as he begins to crawl to the nearest corner. Watching a 95 pound animal then inch his way along the right angle of floor and wall, over two bones and a slipper, all the while maintaining a body height not much larger than the diameter of the TV cable, and uttering noises no dog should make - well, these are but some of the reasons for the aforementioned preferences.

After some time, he was finally coaxed into a sitting position, and standing behind him to prevent the automatic backing up, the swinging head was finally grasped, the jaw opened, and in went the first pill, straight to the back of his throat. The jaw is then held in a closed position, and the throat is gently massaged, to trigger a swallow reflex. After a few moments of this activity, the jaw is released to test the work.

This results in the pill being deposited unceremoniously on the carpet a few feet in front of the animal, making it fairly easy to retrieve for the second try. This process is then repeated, with variation, until all four pills are finally swallowed. The dog is then patted, which causes a miraculous change in body language, and then one looks around for the second beast, who miraculously disappeared even before Lucas made it to the first corner.

The only difference between de-worming the male dog verses a female dog that I can discern, is that Kaylie doesn’t spit as far, which makes pill retrieval much easier. I also noticed we don’t cover as much distance backing up between rounds, so the damage to the carpet is usually much less as well.

Of course, thirty seconds after the last pill, both are acting as if nothing happened at all and Berit rearranges the furniture with the minimum of head shakes, so I think things are progressing very nicely indeed.

I must say though, next time I hear “White wiggly thingies,” I’m going to call on those six large lads, and make those necessary phone calls that I spoke about earlier.

EFT "Newbie" Success Stories

Here are some EFT success stories from a few participants of the recent seminars in Spain as reported by Jose Hernandez.

Marie has been enthusiastically using EFT on practically anyone she meets. Her 71 year old neighbour, for example, has suffered rheumatoid arthritis and bronchitis, experiencing great difficulty climbing up the stairs to his home. Marie applied the "collarbone breathing" technique, learned in the advanced seminar, and observed that her neighbour's breathing has become less laboured. He is now able to more comfortably climb stairs and go for longer walks. His quality of life has improved greatly.

Nicca was wondering whether it might be possible to deliver EFT over the telephone. She wishes to use EFT with a friend but would like some guidance with the process, so she and her friend will be face to face, with a more experienced EFT practitioner doing the verbal work, on the telephone. Nicca can either perform the actual tapping or assist by showing the client how to tap. In this way, Nicca can be the practitioner's eyes, whilst at the same time learning from and assisting in the therapy. We'll let you know how this works out. Nicca also had a more immediate problem to deal with... her cat had a fever. So I suggested that she place the cat on her lap and tap herself, focussing on the cat and using "my cat's fever" as the reminder phrase - we'll let you know how that worked out too!

Alfonso has a client who experienced unbearable pain in her neck due to discal hernia, which made it impossible for her to, for example, do ironing. Doctors suggested she should have the hernia operated on, however she did NOT want to do this. Alfonso applied one round of EFT - tapping for the pain in the neck, which disappeared before the round was completed. This occurred two months ago, there has been no reoccurrence of the pain and the client has resumed activities she could not previously carry out. Alfonso also runs a self-help group - the members of which use EFT daily, or as required, as a stress tool. They report that it is very effective, specially if used when the stress is being experienced. "If it doesn't work - it's because they don't try it!"
"...there has been no reoccurrence of the pain
and the client has resumed activities she could not previously carry out."

Joaquina recently had her computer guy come and sort out her computer problems. During the visit, he was sneezing constantly and really suffering the symptoms of an allergic reaction. Joaquina combined her background in psychology and intuition to ask him, "What are you afraid of?" With his permission, she proceeded to tap for "the fear" and the symptoms ceased. Joaquina is interested in fibro myalgia. Women suffering from this describe it as very painful "knots" in the muscles - Joaquina is wondering whether there might also be emotional knots that EFT could be applied to.

Asun works with children, she is director of a school. She has had several cases of children who experience a great deal of tension and end up in fights. In one case, a 9 year old boy beat up two older girls. One of the girls was still agitated after the event and when asked what she felt, she said, "Anger!". So Asun asked the girl to tell her how much anger, from 1 to 10. It was a 10, so Asun then said that she could try something to help the girl, if it was ok with her.

After getting the go ahead, Asun performed a round of tapping, then asked how much anger was left. This time it was a six, so another round of tapping and the girl smiled and said, "Calm... good!". With the second girl, Asun again asked what she felt and this time got "Sadness". Again, Asun asked for how much... a 9, then after getting permission to try something that could help, did a round of tapping on the girl. The sadness had reduced, but was still there, so another round of tapping... and it was gone.

A 7 year old girl experienced 10+ anger, so Asun said, "If you like, I can help you... it's something like magic!". Again, two rounds of tapping reduced, and then transformed the anger to a smile. Asun cleverly asked, "Does this happen to you often?", then suggested, "The next time it happens, think about what we just did here". Some time later, Asun ran into the same girl again and the girl said, "Asun! It works!". The girl's teacher commented on a general improvement in the girl's behaviour, which the parents had also observed and reported back to the teacher.

Finally, a new boy at the school, with a problematic history, was feeling very nervous about doing an exam on his first day. Asun asked if he would like her to help him by tapping on some "magic points". She again carried out the simple procedure and watched the change before her eyes as he became calm and settled. He was able to take the exam and everything went well. Asun feels that the important thing is to ask the child to define what he or she feels.

Each of the practitioners above used EFT in it's very basic form to achieve significant and wonderful results - the message I'd like to get across to you is... "Just do it". You really can apply EFT to just about anything, it doesn't hurt to try.

Happy EFT'ing
